About Jewels.com - International Daily News About Jewels

We present you 5 jewelry designers whose passion to create unique jewels that only someone with their love and excitement can make, eventually elevate them in their industry.Take a look below.

Myia Bonner

No sooner had London-born Myia Bonner graduated from Middlesex University, than she became the first winner of the now prestigious EC One Unsigned competition back in 2010. An exciting launch-pad, her classic diamond collection hit their stores and the black rhodium-plated silver piece remains her most prized piece to date. She told us, “My current collections look at diamonds; the infamous stone which has so much history. This piece explores the structure and shape of a diamond including scale, association and preconception.” The result is an intriguing form and a witty take on a precious diamond pendant.

Michelle Oh

During a spring clean last year, designer/maker Michelle Oh was urged by her partner to sort through all the things she had been hoarding. Instead of reluctantly removing them all, she came up with a cunning plan. If she finally made use of the pebbles, coral and beach glass gathering dust in boxes, she could justify keeping them for a little longer. And so her precious treasures became the inspiration for a collection. Michelle told us, “For our second anniversary last year, my partner took me on a weekend trip to Whitstable and we went on many walks along the beaches. When I look at the things I collected there, I am reminded of the smell of the sand, the sea and the special time we spent together.” Another good reason to keep hold of them we reckon. This 22ct yellow gold plated silver ring with pink tourmalines has been sand-blasted to achieve a matte, textured finish in keeping with the organic aesthetic of the collection.

Alyssa Smith

The Twitter phenomenon that is Alyssa Smith has to be a brilliant example of what can be achieved with some creative thinking. Recognising that the jewellery market was pretty much at saturation point, and already using Twitter as a marketing tool to launch her fledgling business, Alyssa came up with the Tweetie Bird necklace that placed her name firmly on the map. Alyssa told us, “So many designers draw inspiration from nature and organic forms, but I realised how popular social networking sites were and decided to do something that hadn’t been seen in the industry before and make social media inspired jewellery- not in plastic or throwaway materials, but in precious materials.” That decision led to industry recognition beyond her expectations, in just two short years. Currently resident entrepreneur at the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy and with an astonishing amount of awards already under her belt, Alyssa Smith Jewellery has become a true inspiration.

Sarah Eyton

When Sarah Eyton was studying 3D design at Brighton University, she had no idea that the materials she was using to create furniture, would be utilised to produce her jewellery range when she returned home to London. She told us, “I was initially inspired by the material and it’s jewel-like quality and I wanted to use repetitive components to create a bracelet that was flexible.” The concept behind the ‘Immortal Coil’ bracelet was the notion of what goes around comes around and the circular paths our lives and experiences can take.

Jolita Jewellery

Designer-maker Algis Abromaitis of Jolita Jewellery, was born in Lithuania but has been based in London for over 15 years. Working alongside his sister, after whom the company is named, he achieves the distinctive look of his jewellery by combining an overwhelming range of materials. The London Voodoo Bangle includes Kasmiri bells, hand-spun Indian silk, vintage crystal components, goldstone, coral, jade, metallic beads and a lining of soft velvet. To name a few! Algis told us, “I was inspired by the tribal jewellery worn by women in Oman, along with Memento Mori adornments. The combination of hand-carved Tibetan skulls and silk flowers is what makes the piece particularly special for me.” A customer from New York agreed with him and snapped up the one-off piece immediately. Lucky them.
